Research

My research develops computational, spatial, and visual analytic approaches to support planners optimize complex urban systems when goals conflict and uncertainty is unavoidable. Situated at the intersection of planning, transportation, and public health, I develop analytical frameworks that integrate large-scale administrative and operational data, high-resolution spatial modeling, and visualization for communication to support more transparent and interpretable planning decisions.

Planning under competing objectives and uncertainty

Planning decisions frequently require institutions and communities to weigh efficiency, safety, equity, access, and reliability without a clear hierarchy among them. I develop analytical approaches that make these tradeoffs more explicit and interpretable, while producing visual tools that support communication among planners, policymakers, researchers, and communities.

Transportation, public health, and mobility equity

My current body of transportation research examines adolescent mobility, driver education, licensing pathways, and traffic safety. This work studies how public policy, household resources, spatial access, neighborhood conditions, and the built environment shape young people’s opportunities to become safely mobile.

Infrastructure and network resilience

An emerging strand of my research studies how large transportation networks respond to disruptions. This work reconstructs operational responses to mass aircraft diversions and examines how forecasting, spatial analysis, and visual analytics can support more reliable and transparent infrastructure decisions under uncertainty.

Decision-support tools

I treat visualization and communication as integral parts of analysis rather than as final presentation steps. My work combines administrative and operational data, high-resolution spatial modeling, statistical methods, and interactive visual tools to translate complex evidence into planning decisions that can be examined, communicated, and contested.
